Richard’s sculptural mobiles are a prime example of his ability to use atypical materials in his art. These works include both maquettes (models) and completed mobiles, created from media such as cardboard, balsa wood, found objects, steel rods, sheet aluminum, glass beads, and stone. Some elements are painted while others are left in their natural state, allowing the beauty of each element to stand out.

The mobiles are designed to move gracefully with changing air currents, creating dynamic compositions that transform with light, shadow, and position.

“These were born of the COVID lockdown, two undisturbed years in my studio when I also spent a great deal more time outdoors, inspired especially by the mountains, rivers, and creeks.”
